How to obtain your Arizona Real Estate Agent License

The Arizona Department of Real Estate requires the following for you to become a licensed real estate sales person:

Pursuant to A.R.S. §32-2124, all applicants applying for an original license shall show evidence satisfactory to the Commissioner:

  • Of the honesty, truthfulness, good character and competency of the applicant.
  • That the applicant has not had a license denied within one year, or revoked within two years, immediately preceding the application date.
  • That the applicant is at least 18 years of age when applying for a license.
  • That a real estate license applicant has completed prelicensure education course(s) prescribed and approved by the Commissioner of at least 90 classroom hours and has passed the school's final examination.

An applicant must have passed the state examination within one year preceding the application for licensure. (§32-2125.01)

For detailed information on Arizona requirements, go to http://www.re.state.az.us/LIC/LIC.html

If an applicant has held a real estate license in another state, the Arizona Department of Real Estate may allow for reciprocity, in other words, the applicant may not be required to take the entire 90 hours of real estate classes. Contact the Arizona Department of Real Estate to inquire.

Once an applicant has passed the School exam, they will then be required to pass the state examination. For more detailed information on testing, go to http://www.re.state.az.us/LIC/Documents/Candidate_Information_Bulletin.pdf

It should be noted that the Arizona Department of Real Estate is very serious about disclosure by applicants. Passing of the real estate exam is no guarantee of the Department issuing you a license.

Currently, Arizona does not allow for online pre-licensing; however all continuing education classes may be taken online. Licensees are required to complete 24 hours of continuing education every 2 years in the following approved categories: A minimum of 3 credit hours each of the following are required:

  • Agency Law
  • Disclosure Law
  • Contract Law
  • Commissioner's Standards
  • Legal Issues
  • Fair Housing

The remaining 6 hours may be in any of the above categories OR General Real Estate or Business Brokerage.

The Arizona Department of Real Estate now allows renewals to be completed online. Go to www.re.state.az.us, and follow the links to online renewal. Once you have renewed online, your Broker will be notified, and will have to confirm your renewal. You may want to contact your Broker to make them aware that you are renewing online.

The Department also has a section Of FAQ's on it's website relating to pre-licensing, licensing questions, license renewal and education providers. Click here: https://az.gov/webapp/dre/82faq.do to link to the FAQ page.
